Honorary Roles

Professor Paul Mitrofanoff was a Paediatric Consultant Urologist and he created the Mitrofanoff procedure in 1976. The procedure was developed to help give individuals a better quality of life when suffering with incontinence and incomplete bladder emptying.

Paul retired in 2000 and enjoys his retirement with his family living just outside Paris.

In February 2013 after he had been surfing the internet, Paul contacted us to congratulate us on launching the Charity, representing the interests of those living with a Mitrofanoff and for raising more awareness of the procedure. We were thrilled when Paul attended a Patient Education Day in London on 28th September 2013 and he was pleased to meet everyone:

Paul attended a Patient Education Day in London on 28th September 2013 “I am very impressed by the wonderful day that was organised. I am very happy to have been there to see the warm ties between all participants and hopefully given them the pleasure to meet myself! The book of messages is especially precious to me and I am very proud of all the kind words. Thank you.”

Professor Christopher Woodhouse was Consultant Urologist at The Royal Marsden Hospital, specialising in Urinary Tract Cancer, Reconstructive and Congenital Malformations and was the first urologist to perform the Mitrofanoff in the UK in the early 1980s. He was appointed Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons in 1975, was a senior registrar at the Institute of Urology from 1977–1981 and a senior lecturer between 1981–1997. The Institute of Urology was subsumed into University College London where he was Clinical Director of Urology from 2001, becoming Professor of Adolescent Urology in 2006 and Emeritus Professor after his retirement in 2011.
